Flower Sketching Workshop with Elena Maza Borkland
Saturday, April 12 from 1 - 4pm at Long Branch
Join local artist and instructor Elena Maza Borkland with a free flower sketching workshop at Long Branch.

This workshop will encourage interested and budding artists to sketch plants directly from life, document their activities and learning process in a sketchbook or "Nature Journal." Elena will share some of her own botanical journals and sketchbooks to show around and provide specific information on her process of sketching botanicals. After brief introduction and orientation talk, participants will be sketching directly in Long Branch's gardens.

This free workshop is limited to 15 participants. Adults and mature teens only, no children. Participants are asked to bring their own sketching materials: graphite and/or colored pencils, watercolors, sketchbooks and/or paper, a portable chair, wide-brimmed hat, bug repellent and drinking water.
An exile from Cuba, Elena started painting in 1970 and studied later at the Corcoran School of Art. Her paintings have been exhibited nationally in juried and invitational shows, and she has traveled as artist-in-residence to seven different locations in the U.S. and abroad. Elena studied botanical art at Brookside Gardens School of Botanical Art and Illustration and earned a Certificate in 2015. After retiring from work as an engineering design professional, she is currently a full-time artist and teaches botanical art.
